Connection issues

In order to correctly track and protect your devices, Prey for Android needs to be running in the background; however, there are some instances in Android devices in which Prey may not be allowed to do this: here you can find a few steps (by Android version or specific manufacturer and model) that can help you prevent that and make sure that Prey is correctly protecting your devices. The device list is pretty large, so just select one from the index below and you'll be taken to the step-by-step.

Android Versions

• • Open the Settings app.
  • Select Battery.
  • Tap the three dot menu and select Battery Optimization.
  • Select Prey and choose Don't Optimize.
• • Open the Settings app.
  • Select Apps.
  • Select Prey from the list.
  • Select Battery and then Battery Optimization.
  • Select the Apps not optimized option and change it to All apps.
  • From the list, select Prey and then make sure the setting is left to Don't optimize.
• • Open the Settings app.
  • Select Battery.
  • Select Adaptive Battery.
  • Select Restricted Apps
  • Make sure that Prey is not selected in the list.

By manufacturer and model

Asus Zenfone (Android 7)

Before you start, make sure that Prey is set to auto-start by going to the Settings app > Power Management > Auto-start manager and finding Prey in the list. Make sure the auto-start option is enabled.

For Asus Zenfone 2, in the apps drawer go to Apps > Auto-start manager and make sure that Prey is toggled On.

• Open the Mobile Manager app.
• Select Boost.
• Tap Enable Super Boost.
• Select Protected app list and make sure that Prey is listed.

Huawei Honor 6

• Open the Settings app.
• Select Power Saving and then tap on Protected Apps.
• Look for Prey and make sure its toggled On.

Huawei Honor 8

• Open the Settings app.
• Select Advanced Settings and then tap on Battery Manager.
• Tap Protected Apps (or Close apps after screen lock,) and make sure that Prey is toggled On.
• Back on the main screen of the Settings app, tap Apps and select Advanced.
• Select Ignore battery optimizations and select Prey to ignore optimizations.

Huawei P8 lite

• Open the Phone Manager app.
• Swipe left and select Startup Manager.
• Select Prey and make sure that it's set to run at system startup.

Huawei Mate 8 and Huawei Nova Plus

• Open the Settings app.
• Select Advanced Settings and then tap on Battery Manager.
• Tap Protected Apps and make sure that Prey is toggled On.

Huawei P20 and P30

• Open the Settings app.
• From the Apps submenu select Prey.
• Select Power Usage and then App Launch.
• Toggle Manage automatically to off and then toggle Auto-launch, Secondary launch and Run in the Background all to On.

LeEco and LeTV

• Open the Settings app.
• From the Permissions submenu select Manage Auto Launch On.
• Back in the home screen of the Settings app, select Battery and then Power saving management.
• Select App Protection and toggle Prey to On.

Lenovo

• Open the Settings app.
• Select Power Management and then Background app management.
• Find Prey in the list and toggle it to Allow auto-start.

OnePlus (Android 7 and earlier)

• Open the Settings app.
• Select Apps and then tap the gear icon in the top right.
• Select App Autolaunch and then find Prey in the list and toggle it to enable.

OnePlus (Android 8+)

• Open the Settings app and tap on Advanced.
• Select Recent apps management and make sure Normal clear is enabled.
• Back in the Settings app home screen, select Battery and then Battery Optimization.
• Select Apps not optimized and then All apps.
• In the list find Prey and make sure it's set to Don't optimize.

OnePlus 3

• Open the Settings app and tap on Battery.
• Select Battery Optimization and tap the three-dot menu in the top-right hand of the screen.
• Select Advanced Optimization and then toggle Prey to off.

Oppo

• Open the Settings app and tap on Advanced Settings.
• Select Battery Manager and then Protected Apps.
• Find Prey on the list and toggle it to On to enable protection.
• Back on the Settings app home screen, tap on Energy Saver.
• Find Prey on the list and make sure that all options are disabled.
• Open the Security app.
• Tap on Privacy Permissions and then select Start up manager.
• Find Prey on the list and make sure the setting is enabled.

Samsung

• Open the Settings app and tap on Device management.
• Select Battery and tap on Unmonitored apps.
• Add Prey to the list.

Xiaomi

• Open the Settings app and tap on Manage Apps' Battery Usage.
• Select Apps and then Prey. Make sure the option No Restrictions is selected.
• Open the Security app and then tap on Permissions.
• Select Autostart and make sure that Prey is toggled On.
